32-weeks of gentle, literature-based curriculum designed for ages 2.5-5 years

Treehouse Story School: Preschool is a gentle, literature-based preschool curriculum that invites children to learn through the themes in stories they love. Each week will focus on a picture book, inviting children into connection and learning through music and movement, play-based narration, alphabet and number play, motor skills, practical life development, crafts, and baking together.

It would be a great fit for your toddler or preschooler if you are looking to incorporate multi-sensory, play-based learning while introducing them to timeless stories. From toddler through upper preschool, this curriculum can be used year after year as you dive deeper into beloved, classic stories your family will cherish.

What's included?

  • Bound Curriculum with weekly grids, daily lesson plans, hand rhymes, recipes, and handcraft instructions, 272 pages
  • Storytelling Cut-Out Pieces with hand-painted watercolor character illustrations, 34 pages
  • Number Cards, 0-20
  • Alphabet Cards, uppercase and lowercase, A-Z
Music & Movement

Starting your gathering time with music and movement is a wonderful way to help children release energy before sitting down to listen to a story and participate in activities. Each book has a coordinating:

  • Hand Rhyme: Each day of the week you will lead your children in the hand rhyme. You can follow the lyrics and directions on the hand rhyme sheet in each week’s plans and/or play the YouTube video to follow along.
  • Music: Each day of the week, you will play the songs from the week’s playlist. The songs in the Spotify playlists are broken down into four-week increments. The songs for each week are either related to the themes in the story or general early learning songs. Encourage children to sing along, dance, experiment with various instruments, and use play scarves.
Storytime

Storytime is the foundation of each day’s lessons. Every day, you will read the week's picture book aloud, then bring the story to life by playing with your child using the hand-painted watercolor Storytelling Pieces and any additional props from the Storytelling Basket.

This early form of narration helps children develop the habit of attention, deepen their understanding of the story, practice language and sequencing skills, and build a foundation for both oral and written narration.

Phonics & Alphabet

Each week provides simple, hands-on activities for children to practice letter recognition, formation, and letter sounds. The learning begins by focusing on the letters in your child's name, making the experience personal and meaningful, and then progresses through the alphabet in a carefully planned sequence.

Alphabet learning is supported with the Story School Alphabet Cards and the Beginning Sound Box–a simple game using household items to reinforce their phonics learning.

Early Math Skills

Throughout the curriculum, your child will be introduced to and begin to recognize and form numbers 0-20 using the Story School Number Cards. This is reinforced along with other age-appropriate early math skills such as sorting, counting, grouping, identifying shapes and colors, and exploring basic addition concepts. The skills are presented in a gradual, developmental sequence, with regular review incorporated to reinforce understanding. Each week includes kinesthetic activities to help your child actively engage with these concepts.

Life Skills / Fine Motor

Each week, you will engage your children in activities that promote important life skills such as self-care, kitchen tasks, and basic home repairs. You will also introduce activities designed to strengthen fine motor skills, such as lacing, squeezing sponges, and using spray bottles. These intentionally planned activities help build finger strength in preparation for developing a proper pencil grasp. Some activities align with the themes from the week’s story, while others are more general, providing a well-rounded approach to skill development.

Hands-on Story Connections

You will conclude each day’s lesson with a hands-on project, activity, or simple recipe that relates to the themes of the story. Some of these activities will emphasize geography, nature, or science, helping to connect the themes to the wider world and nurturing a love for learning.

Fridays are dedicated to gathering for a Read-Aloud Tea Party. Each week’s plan includes a suggested recipe to make for the tea party. You can find suggested books related to the weekly themes in the Book Basket list provided in each week’s preparation sheet.

Each week you’ll find a field trip suggestion related to the week’s story. You can schedule this in during an afternoon or weekend for the weeks that work for your family.

Amazing introduction for kids and adults

I love Treehouse Story School!! I really wanted to do living literature with my kids (K and preK), but I was finding myself overwhelmed with the longer chapter books and unit studies. This preschool level is perfect, not only for my kids, but also for me to ease into this style of teaching and learning. Also, many of the books are classics that I was praying to own, and this gave me the perfect opportunity to collect them for my home library!
