Overview of Mr. Popper's Penguins
Mr. Popper’s Penguinsby Florence and Richard Atwater is a heartfelt story about an eccentric house painter who resides in the small town of Stillwater with his family. As he goes through his daily life, he dreams of venturing out of the small town to visit the North and South Poles.
Fascinated by these faraway places, he studies maps and atlases dreaming about visiting the continents, while his practical wife handles the duties of daily life. When Mr. Popper sends a letter to an Antarctic explorer, he is surprised with an unexpected gift, a penguin named Captain Cook. To repair the penguin’s loneliness, Mr. Popper acquires Greta, another penguin, and together they generate a family of penguins.
The story follows Mr. Popper and his brood of penguins as they adapt their home to accommodate the needs of the animals, train them to perform and more. As the penguins charm all who see them, Mr. Popper is faced with hard decisions about what is best for the animals, and what environment they will ultimately thrive in. This tale explores themes like the pursuit of dreams, the importance of family, adapting to unexpected change, responsibility for one’s actions, and the value of compromise.

Each book contains four weekly lesson plans to be used as a menu so parents can choose which activities to do each day.
Just started Kindergarten with my 5 year old and preschool with my 3 year old and we love doing family book clubs and reading chapter books together with dad in the evenings! I wanted to choose books that we all would enjoy and have follow up activities if they wanted to dive deeper! Treehouse book studies have been the solution! Some weeks we just read the book, some weeks we go deeper with the recommended videos, activities and books. As my kids get older we will add more of the bonus activities in (and reread the books!), but right now, we are having fun reading longer books as a family and loving literature together! Can’t recommend these studies enough.

This is the first year using this and I’m so excited to start. A Homeschool mom shared it with me and she just loves it.

Timeless Classics
My family has been using Treehouse Schoolhouse book studies for a year now and will continue using them. As a parent, I look for these timeless classics. They are a perfect addition to our homeschool book club! Caddie Woodlawn is heartwarming tale very similar to the Little House series.

Great addition to our homeschool this year!
Our whole family is enjoying this novel. The accompanying activities are lots of fun for the kids. It would be a little easier for me to plan if things were broken down by chapter instead of week and if the additional resources list were part of the weekly breakdown, but overall would still recommend!
—For researching sycamores, there’s a quick video from the University of Kentucky’s Tree of the Week series that works well. My kids loved the fun facts section included in that video.
