My 2025 Elementary and Middle School Curriculum Choices

July 16, 2025 Treehouse Schoolhouse

This year I am so excited to finally be homeschooling all four of my children. In previous years, my youngest daughter would join in on crafts and family read-alouds, but this year she will be joining in full force with her other siblings. Over the summer I spent a lot of time reflecting on what I want our family’s daily rhythm to feel like and what our home education environment will be like as we join together from grades kindergarten through middle school.

With that said, here are my homeschool curriculum choices for the upcoming school year.

In this blog post:

  • About our homeschool family of four
  • Our homeschool style
  • Our homeschool schedule and daily rhythm
  • My 2025 elementary and middle school homeschool curriculum choices
  • Favorite homeschool resources for 2025-2026

About our homeschool family of four

Currently our children are ages 5, 7, 10, and 12. Technically, they would be considered entering grades kindergarten, 2nd grade, 5th grade, and 7th grade.

My husband, Matt, and I both work part-time from home and share responsibilities of our home and homeschool. Matt is with the kids in the mornings until 8 a.m., and then again from 1:30-5:00 p.m. While I oversee the majority of the homeschooling, Matt leads the children in Bible lessons over breakfast and teaches the older children’s math lessons in the afternoons. He also oversees any other school work they are completing in the afternoons that they didn’t finish in the morning.

Our homeschool style

Family-style learning

As you may know, in our homeschool we do not emphasize labeling grade levels. This is because we do much of our curriculum “family-style.” Family-style learning means we use the same curricula for my children at different ages, tailoring the material to their levels. This way, my children learn together, despite being at various ages. While my children also have work they do independently that is tailored to their levels, the majority of our curricula can be tailored to use with all of my children, together, or in small groups, like the older children or the younger children. Lesson planning is streamlined and fosters sibling bonding as we do lessons together.

Respectful learning

Rather than forcing my children into specific grade levels, I allow my children to progress at their own pace. Sometimes this means they are above “grade level” according to curriculum labels or state standards. Sometimes this means they are “behind.” My goal as a homeschooling parent is simple – to see my children continually grow in understanding, in skills, and in the desire to learn. I want them to enjoy their education, while also being challenged at just the right level.

Charlotte Mason-style

While I do not subscribe to one specific method of education, I do lean toward Charlotte Mason principles. I value learning through living books, life experiences, and educating the whole child (not only the mind). We also utilize narration as a cornerstone of our education.

Our homeschool schedule and daily rhythm

Here is the schedule we are using for our homeschool days on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. This year, on Wednesdays my older children will have enrichment classes, and in the afternoons they will complete their independent work and math. Fridays we join our homeschool community group where we play in nature, hike, and catch up with friends.

  • 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. – Bible lessons over breakfast (all children with dad)
  • 8:30 – 9 a.m. – Morning Responsibilities (all children with me)
  • 9 – 10 a.m. – Morning Time (all children with me)

  • 8 p.m. – Bedtime routines

My 2025 elementary and middle school homeschool curriculum choices

These are our curriculum choices for my family, the curriculum we are using for family-style learning and each child’s individual lessons.

Bible curriculum for 2025-2026

10 Kids’ Bible Activities for Growing a Relationship with God

This year we are excited to use Flourish Family Bible Curriculum, which focuses on the outward life of a follower of Christ. My husband leads our family devotional each morning over breakfast. Each day my children declare the week’s statement, work on Scripture memory, read a passage from the Bible, and discuss, pray together, and read a piece of poetry or observe related artwork. Some days they do the extension activity offered in the guide like a game or an art extension. Other times they will do this aspect later in the day during our homeschool lessons.

Morning Time curriculum choices for 2025-2026

Morning Time is the time of our day where all four of the children join together to learn. This year we will only have Morning Time three days a week. In the past we have used Treehouse Nature Study as the cornerstone of Morning Time, but I wanted to try something different this year. This year we will start each Morning Time with a snack and reading from various poetry books. We will also be memorizing various longer pieces like poems and Scripture passages, so we will work on recitation of those passages. Then, we will rotate through these three studies, just doing one lesson per week of each.

  • Beautiful Feet Books Art Appreciation – This curriculum introduces children to the rich world of art history and visual culture, featuring carefully curated lessons on famous artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Vincent van Gogh, and Georgia O’Keeffe. This study uses detailed lesson plans, hands-on projects, and guided art observation to develop critical thinking, creativity, and a deeper understanding of visual expression.
  • Beautiful Feet Books Music Appreciation – This study features a curated collection of lessons on famous composers such as Bach, Beethoven, and more. The study uses detailed lesson plans with fun music activities, and exploration of basic musical elements like rhythm, pitch, and melody. My children will be notebooking what they learn throughout this study.
  • CM Simple Studies: English Fairy Tales – We will study classic fairy tales with this curriculum that uses illustrations, discussion questions, narration prompts and more to encourage children to form personal connections to folklore and develop each child’s imagination. We will also use this as an opportunity for notebooking.

Family-style homeschool curriculum choices for 2025-2026

Favorite Homeschool Supplies
  • Treehouse Book Studies – We will use Treehouse Book Studies and pull from both primary and intermediate lists. The younger children will listen and be a part of discussion and activities, while the older children will complete writing assignments, book reports, research, and projects through the themes in the story. We may also have some book club meetups with the books with friends.
  • Story of the World Volume 1 history lessons – We will be studying ancient history together and pulling ideas from the Activity Book for projects, mapping, and notebooking. This will be primarily for the older children, but the younger two will listen in over lunch and be welcome to join the activities. We plan to use the audio version on audible.
  • Lily & Thistle Watercolor School – We have been watercolor painting for years, but I am excited for my children to use a structured program for watercolor tutorials and painting techniques.
  • Treehouse Schoolhouse holiday unit studies – We also love to do unit studies each year that connect to the time of year, such as A Treasured Thanksgiving, A Connected Christmas, A Virtuous Valentine’s, and An Expectant Easter. We have done all of these before but I find that my children love to revisit them each year.
