Introducing A Virtuous Valentine’s

As a parent and home educator, one of my deepest desires is to see my children grow into individuals who lead lives full of purpose, kindness, and integrity. I believe virtues begin with a firm foundation, one rooted in the love of God.

Instilling this love isn’t just about teaching them about God; it’s about showing them how that relationship with God shapes how we view ourselves and how we love and serve others. By helping children understand God’s relentless love for them, my hope is that they will internalize these truths. Through God’s work in their hearts, kids can grow to become compassionate, kind, generous, and selfless people.

I wanted a study for my children to teach about living a virtuous life, but one rooted in understanding God’s love. From this foundation, I’m so pleased to introduce A Virtuous Valentine’s, a Valentine’s Day unit study for families. This study is designed to teach children about God’s love and share the Biblical meaning of love.

What is A Virtuous Valentine’s?

A Virtuous Valentine’s is a five-day Valentine’s Day unit study that combines Bible study, poetry, art, literature, and hands-on activities for kids in a way that makes the holiday meaningful.

This study takes a moment to go deep into the learning opportunity that Valentine’s Day brings for those who believe in God. Beyond the surface celebrations, this study dives into the profound, life-changing love that God offers.

Understanding God’s love is the heart of this Valentine’s Day study for children and families. Featuring Scripture readings, beauty subjects, picture books, hands-on activities, and a look into the history of Valentine’s Day, this study provides an invitation to learning and inspiration for the whole family.

This study contains four lesson plan grids and closes with a day of celebration. Each daily lesson plan focuses on a characteristic of God’s love, as it teaches children what it is and how to live out that virtue in everyday life. Use the daily lesson plan as a menu to explore Scripture reading, appreciate art and poetry, do a hands-on project, read children’s literature, and more.

Finally, this guide includes printable Valentine’s Day cards for children and a guide to hosting a Valentine’s Day tea party. We hope this unit study brings your family love, joy, and peace this Valentine’s, along with special moments you will cherish together.

Bible study and Scripture in A Virtuous Valentine’s

The Bible paints a picture of love that is more than sentiment; it’s unconditional, transformative, and rooted in God’s truths as revealed in Scripture and through our personal faith journeys.

The goal of A Virtuous Valentine’s is to help children grasp the depth of God’s love and how it shapes relationships. This Valentine’s Day Bible study explores how God’s love is unconditional, how love is expressed through acts of kindness and encouragement, how compassion and empathy can change hearts and lives, and how true love is demonstrated through selflessness and sacrifice. As children learn about love, we want them to understand that the deepest, most enduring love is God’s love and to reflect on how they can experience and share this love in their own lives.

Each day of this Valentine’s Day study focuses on one aspect of God’s love or a characteristic of love that children can learn to instill in their lives. This includes:

God’s unconditional love
Kindness and encouragement
Compassion and empathy
Selflessness and sacrifice

The daily lesson plans also include multiple Scripture readings that illustrate and explore each topic.

Poetry and copywork in A Virtuous Valentine’s

Each day of the study includes prompts to interact with a poem related to the study by reading aloud, discussing, or practicing copywork. The study includes poetry display sheets and copywork pages in print and cursive.

Art study in A Virtuous Valentine’s

Each day of the study includes prompts to interact with a classical art piece by observing the artwork or playing Hide and Describe. The study includes artwork display sheets.

Children’s books in A Virtuous Valentine’s

Each day you will read aloud the day’s assigned picture book. If you are unable to source the book, the books are available as read-aloud on YouTube. The chosen picture books reiterate the theme of the day. There is also an extension book list included with the book list for further reading.

Projects and crafts in A Virtuous Valentine’s

Each day of the study concludes with a hands-on project or craft for children to complete. Enjoy this special time together as your children create keepsakes – including creating Valentine’s cards for family and friends that express their kindness and positive words. This study includes printable Valentine’s cards for children to share with one another.
