A Connected Christmas Recap: Week Two

We are really starting to get into the rhythm of Christmas schooling! Throughout the course of week two, we continued studying passages of the Biblical Christmas story by reading, narrating, and illustrating. We learned about Mary’s song, the birth of John the Baptist, Zechariah’s song, and when an angel came to Joseph. The children’s narration notebooks are filling up! They memorized Matthew 1:21 and reviewed last week’s Scripture memory as well.

The kids loved singing along to “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” and learning the poem “The Waits” by Margaret Deland. Our poet and artist studies took us on a trip to Boston, Massachusetts, and Italy! My kids especially love illustrating the imagery from the poems and recreating the artwork we study all week.

We sliced and baked oranges after reading (and crying through) An Orange for Frankie. Our hearts were moved while reading Christmas Day in the Morning and we wrote “Acts of Service” gift lists to show our love in a tangible way. We spent afternoons making molasses candy like Pa and Ma Ingalls of Christmas in the Big Woods and learned to make Swedish paper hearts like the children in Noisy Village.

We filled the house with the sweet smell of cinnamon when we made cinnamon applesauce star ornaments.
