What are Resurrection Eggs?

Resurrection Eggs are a simple way to teach children the series of events in the Biblical Easter Story, including the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection. In this activity, children hunt for eggs, reveal a clue, and participate in interactive storytelling.
Resurrection Eggs are created by dividing the Easter story into chronological segments. Each segment is represented by an object or symbol placed inside a numbered egg. As children find the eggs, the story is revealed one piece at a time. If hunting for all the eggs at once, simply ensure they are opened in numerical order to keep the timeline of events correct.
As children find the Easter eggs you have prepared, you can use these Eggs to prompt the telling of the Easter story. This can be done over several days, in the weeks leading up to Easter Sunday, or all at once. It is a simple, playful, hands-on way for children to learn the Biblical Easter story. If you choose to do one Easter Egg hunt for all of the clues, you will want to make sure the eggs are opened in numbered order so the story is told in the correct order.

How to Prepare Resurrection Eggs
Follow the instructions below to prepare your Easter Egg Story Hunt for kids.
- Print and cut out the 12 egg clues.
- Number plastic eggs 1 through 12 using a permanent marker.
- Place a slip in each plastic egg with its corresponding number.
Optional: Add a small physical item to the egg in addition to the paper slip that connects to the story, or a small treat like a candy or chocolate for each child. For example, you could add a corresponding element to the story, like a silver coin as your children learn about Judas’ betrayal of Jesus, or a strip of cloth like Jesus used to wash the disciples’ feet.
How to Use Resurrection Eggs to tell the Easter Story

Hide one egg each day in numbered order during the 12 days leading up to Easter. Each day, give your children some clues to find the egg and ask them to hunt for the egg. Once they find it, open it up and find the clue to the day’s passage of scripture. These passages tell the Easter story in chronological order. Ask your children to guess what the story could be about and what the picture could represent. Read the passage of scripture aloud and discuss. Using the slips of paper and/or physical items as hints, ask your child to narrate the Easter story that you have learned so far in order.
